EV Forums, Subreddits, & Discord Servers

To stay connected to other electric vehicle owners throughout your day, consider looking for online communities to join. Electric car forums, subreddits, and discord servers are the perfect places to start. These spaces allow EV enthusiasts to connect, share experiences, ask questions, and discuss all things EV. In these online communities, you can share EV road trip itineraries, tackle ways to beat range anxiety, or find suggestions to extend your electric car battery’s life. Whether you’re looking for a specific car model, like a Tesla forum, or something more general, you have options.

Join an EV Forum

  • Tesla Motors Club - This Tesla forum is one of the largest and most active for Tesla owners, with millions of messages to peruse and more being posted daily. Though designed primarily for Tesla owners, there is a general forum for all electric vehicles. In addition to discussion areas for each of the Tesla models (even the semi and cybertruck!), you’ll find space dedicated to software updates, charging infrastructure, road trips, environmental policy, and more! They even host a podcast.
  • InsideEVs Forum - This popular website includes an electric car forum that allows owners to connect on a wide range of topics related to electric vehicles. You can jump into the general discussion forum to talk about things like public charging struggles or how to find hotels with charging stations, or you can connect with owners of your specific EV manufacturer/model in dedicated forums for Honda, Kia, BMW, etc.
  • Speak EV - Though this community is based in the UK, it welcomes members from around the world. It boasts nearly 60,000 members and nearly two million posts, with conversations ranging from “should classic cars have an electric future?” to charging infrastructure and beyond. Look for your specific make/model or join the general discussions.

Check out Subreddits for EV Enthusiasts

  • r/ElectricVehicles - This passionate community invites discussion about evolving technology, charging infrastructure, government policy, and tips and tricks for EV owners to get the most out of their vehicles. For those seeking a highly engaged community, look no further. With 259,000 members (as of publication), this colossal online gathering ranks among the largest subreddits.
  • r/ElectricCars - Though not nearly as large as r/ElectricVehicles, this community is still plenty active in its own right. It specifically welcomes future buyers in addition to current owners, so check it out even if you’re still deciding if an EV is right for you; you might just find the answer you’re looking for.
  • r/Tesla, r/NissanLeaf, r/BoltEV - It’s easy to find communities dedicated to your particular make/model, if you’re looking for a more personalized experience. In these spaces, you can get more specific about the needs and challenges of your EV experience with others who might have similar experiences or advice. Join the Tesla reddit to chat with other Tesla owners or the Nissan Leaf subreddit to get your questions answered.
  • Create a subreddit for your local EV community - If you haven’t found what you’re looking for, create one! Before long, you could have an EV forum as popular as the Tesla reddit. While it does take time and effort to effectively manage a subreddit, it might be rewarding if it helps you connect with local EV owners. Consider creating one specifically for people in your area, like r/EVAtlanta or r/EVSanDiego (these don’t exist, but they could if you start them!).

Discord Servers for EV Enthusiasts

  • r/ElectricVehicles Official Discord - If you want even more immediate conversation with other EV owners, look to Discord. The r/ElectricVehicles subreddit runs an official Discord, currently comprising over 1,200 members. If you want to foster more personal connections with individual owners, look here.
  • Tesla Enthusiasts Discord - The Tesla community is active all over the internet, and they’ve made space on Discord, too. This community has 27,000 members, and it’s not unusual to find 4,000 people active on a random Saturday morning. Check it out for real-time chat with other Tesla owners.

In-Person Events for EV Owners

If you’re ready to get offline and out into the real world with your electric vehicle, then here are a few places you can start. Electric vehicle associations organize fairs, seminars, expos, and meetups across the country – you just have to know where to look.

  • National Drive Electric Week - This national celebration (usually held toward the end of September), strives to highlight the benefits of electric and hybrid vehicles. Events, seminars, and fairs occur across the United States and online. Join one of the online events for National Drive Electric Week or search for an in-person meet-up in a city near you to find like-minded folks.
  • Electric Vehicle Association Meetups - There are chapters of the Electric Vehicle Association in 48 states plus the District of Columbia, the Virgin Islands, and Canada. Each chapter will be run differently, but most of them will have occasional meetings or events where you can meet other EV owners. If there isn’t a chapter located conveniently to you, consider looking for one that offers online meetups so you can still find ways to participate.
  • Green Energy Expos - Think outside the box! Where there is discussion about green energy sources, there are EV owners. Network with professionals in the renewable energy space at conferences like InterSolar North America, RE+ hosted by Smart Electric Power Alliance (SEPA) and the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), or even Climate Week NYC.

Lend a Helping Hand via You.Car

Finding a space – physically or virtually – to connect with other EV enthusiasts can be very rewarding, but there are other ways to contribute to the community, too. You.Car’s app for EV drivers provides a space for owners to rate and review charging stations. With this functionality, we can work together to make public charging a better, safer, and less time-consuming process for the entire EV community.

The app was designed for EV owners by EV owners – so we know what matters most to you. You’ll know if a charging station was recently reported as broken, if it promises charging speeds it doesn’t deliver on, or if its location truly meets your needs. (In fact, with the app, you can go a step further and filter based on the nearby amenities that matter most to you, like greenspace or grocery shopping.)

Download You.Car and start reviewing charging stations. Let’s make EV ownership better for everyone, together.
